THE FIRST INSTRUMENT FROM THE G&L CUSTOM CREATIONS DEPARTMENT

In April 1998 the G&L artist program requested an ASAT Classic with a third, centrally located pickup and five position selector switch. A reverse-wound ASAT Classic neck pickup was requested for the middle position, but tooling to reverse-wind this pickup was not yet in existence. The G&L Custom Creations Department responded by developing tooling to allow the ASAT Classic neck pickup to be reverse-wound, to be for the limited edition ASAT Classic III.

Below you will find a photo and the specifications for the ASAT Classic III, the first limited edition instrument produced by the G&L Custom Creations Department team in 1998. There were 100 of these instruments built.

The one specification we can't really make clear is the unbelievable tones this guitar has. We are the first to admit that we have always wondered what the "in between" sounds would be like with this configuration. Sure, we've heard guitars from other manufacturers that have two "traditional" chrome covered single coils in the neck and middle position. And yes, we did think they sounded kinda neat. But what about the big "ballsy" tone of an ASAT Classic neck pickup? How would that sound reverse-wound and in the middle position? What would it sound like with the ASAT Classic bridge pickup? The answers: really damn cool. The bottom line is that you have to hear this guitar and experience the tones, especially if you are a hard-core ASAT Classic player. It's almost too bad we made only 100 of them. One thing's for sure, you won't be disappointed if you ever come across one.
