In May 2008 the G&L Custom Creations team located more of the exotic Spalted Maple, the same wood used for the tops on the Custom Creations ASAT Classic Bluesboy earlier in 2008. Spalting is a unique process which occurs when ancient logs, lying in the forest for decades, even centuries, are given character and texture by natural aging processes. Any wood is susceptible to spalting, but maple is the most commonly known. The spalting process results in the characteristic "spalting lines" and enhanced contrast between areas of the woodgrain.
Presented with an opportunity to acquire more of this wood, the Custom Creations Department decided to use some for a double-cutaway guitar, and the choice of the Legacy met with unanimous approval. This fine instrument has all the same features and specifications as the Legacy with the addition of a intricately figured Spalted Maple Top. |
